Within 2 years after Jane's death, Robert moved to West Calder where his
daughter Catherine marr. Archibald Simpson 31 Dec1878 and they had a son John
Simpson b 1880 but Catherine died weeks later.
John married Mary Mossman Cunningham in Uphall where they had at least 2
children. (Adam and Isabella)
John & Mary later moved to Dalkeith where John died in 1949.
Robert Watson (-1911)
Robert marr.secondly Ann Wood (they don't appear to have had any
children) at West Calder on 18 Apr 1879 (4 months after his dau Catherine's
marriage)
The 1881 Census shows Robert living in West Calder with his 2nd wife
Ann Wood with her children and the children from his first marriage. His dau Jane
is recorded as a visitor with Janet & James Frame and their children
who were also living in West Calder.
His 2nd marriage obviously didn't last as he married his 3rd wife Janet
Burton(or Barton) living in Shotts on 16 Feb 1891 in Glasgow giving his
address as 7 Ramsay's Squ. Loanhead.
The 1891 Census shows Robert marr. to Janet Barton (his 3rd wife) visiting his
dau Jane and her husband Ebenezer Forrester a Grocer in Dalkeith whom she marr
on 23 Aug 1887 and by 1891 had 3 children Jeanie (3), Ebenezer (1) Robert (1 mth).
However, the 1891 Census also shows Ann Wood still living at the address
in West Calder on her own describing her status as married. Did Robert and
Ann actually divorce or did Robert bigamously marry Janet Barton?
The 1901 Census shows Robert (64) & Janet (59) living at 16 New Breich Rows,
Livingstone.
Robert died aged 74 on 7 Feb 1911 at Millhill (poss Millerhill) Musselburgh and
his death certificate only shows Jane Veacock and Janet Burton/Barton as his 2
wives. Charles his son was the informant.
Robert has described his birthplace variously as Lockerbie, Lochmaben and
Dumfries.
His father's occupation has been described either as a Baker or Labourer.
Robert adopted the name Halliday as a middle name.
Jane Veacock (?-1876)
Jane Veacock died in 1876 at Cambusnethan
