Thomsons Gazelle

The Thomsons gazelle (Gazella thomsonii) has a light fawn coloured black and white underside separated by dark bands along its flanks.

Range: Tanzania, Kenya, and an isolated population in southern Sudan.
Habitat: Open grassy plains
Diet: Grass is 90% of the diet, other small vegetation is sometimes eaten.
Avg. Size: Male height is 2-2.1 ft. (60-65 cm). Male weight is 44-66 lbs (20-30 kg). Female height is 1.8-2 ft. (55-62 cm). Female weight is 33-48 lbs (15-22 kg).
Reproduction: Around 6 months
Avg. Life Span: The Thomson's Gazelle lives about 10 years
Behavior: They travel in herds with up to 200 members. They migrate to different climates with the changing seasons. Males are very territorial, and they mark their territory with urine and feces.
